Ipod mini is the smallest mp3 player that was created by Apple and released in February 2004. This is really one of the smallest portable players that was squeezed with all its features into a case weighing about 3.6 ounces and smaller than most cell phones - 3.6 by 2.0 by 0.5 inches (91 by 51 by 13 mm). It's anodized aluminium case resists stains and scratches; it weighs a little but protects the device in your pocket, purse or backpack. The device is available in five colors: silver, gold, pink, blue, and green.

The ipod has a monochrome 1.67 inch (diagonal) backlit screen which displays menus or information about the currently selected track. First-generation ipod mini device lasts up to 8 hours on a single battery charge - this is the point where this ipod received a lot of criticism for it's short life battery. This problem was solved in the second-generation ipod minis released since February 2005 - these minis offered 18 hours of battery life.

The device has the popular touch-it scroll wheel, however now it is called Click Wheel and here Apple engineers moved the 4 device mechanical buttons under the wheel. This kind of control takes best advantage of miniscule space and enables a user to scroll single-handedly though 1000nds of songs from his/her music collection.

The ipod uses ultra-thin Compact Flash Microdrive hard drives from Hitachi 4GB to 6GB capacity (capable of storing about 1,000 to 1,500 songs, respectively).

This mini mp3 player communicates or interacts with both PC and Mac. iTunes 4 allows you to organize your music library on your Mac or Windows PC and transfer it to your ipod mini. Without regard to what is your music source - whether you ripped your CD collection to MP3, bought music online from iTunes Music Store or created your own track with - you can take it with you wherever you go. A dock connector is provided on the device bottom for a connection to a computer (Hi-Speed USB or FireWire).

So ipod mini is really an excellent product of its category and received a lot of complimentary marks.
